We always say that seniors are grateful when they are rescued. Our newest rescue, Minnie, is possibly the most grateful we have ever encountered! Maybe because we pulled her out of a house, where she was living alone, while also kept in a crate. She'd get let out twice a day. She had been living alone since at least July, 2024 but the surrenderer did not indicate this on her application. Had we known Minnie's living situation, even though we were full at the time, we would have found a way to rescue her.
When we got her, Minnie was soaking from sitting in her urine in her crate. We believe this probably happened regularly as we have not been able to get the stench of urine off of her, even after 2 baths. She is scheduled for another bath in a couple of days. And she will remain on such a schedule until the remnants of her former life are completely washed off of her.
We believe she had never been to the vet in her life, either. Needless to say, we gave her a thorough vetting at our beloved Naperville Animal Hospital, where she also got one of her baths. Minnie has not stopped wagging her tail since we got her. She loves everyone and everything around her. She got along perfectly well with the 3 dogs currently at Karina's house. At the vet's office in the waiting room, she wanted to play with every dog there.
And by the way, she is 10 years old and weighs 60 pounds. We can pretty reliably estimate that she is a mix of Rottweiler, Husky, and German Shepherd. She defies the reputation of these notoriously kick-ass breeds because she is hopelessly sweet, just oozes love, with not a mean bone in her body.
