Why Foster a Senior Citizen Canine?

As a foster-based rescue organization, Citizen Canine Rescue depends on foster families to rescue senior dogs. It’s because of foster families that we can keep rescuing senior dogs. The more foster families that welcome senior dogs, the more senior dogs we are able to rescue!

What is fostering like?

Because we are a foster-based rescue, our senior Citizen Canines head directly to a foster home while they wait for their happily-ever-after home. First, however, we assess and attend to any medical issues. So, a senior Citizen Canine comes to you vet-blessed and ready for your warm welcome. If you want to be a foster parent/family, it is because you love dogs. If you want to be a foster parent/family to a senior dog, specifically, it is because you have a natural empathy for the unique needs of vulnerable animals, like the elder dog. A warm, loving home for our senior dogs provides wonderful refuge while they wait for their happily-ever-after home.

How much of a difference do fosters really make?

Fosters are essential in helping us find happily-ever-after homes for our senior Citizen Canines! Because they will be spending time with their foster dog, fosters have a front row seat to who that dog is, their likes and dislikes, their mastery of the potty, their activity level, etc. This information is vital to our efforts in finding the fit that best serves the needs of a potential adopter and our senior dog.
