Hospice Seniors

Picture
12-year-old Trixie came to us June 2025 with a lot of anxiety, having spent several weeks living alone in her deceased owner's house while relatives would come in daily to feed her and let her out. Her transition to the rescue was very challenging, though our terrific foster, Sara, broke through with Trixie finally allowing herself to attach to a new person. Tragically, Trixie came down with a case of "bloat" and lost her life only one week and a half into her stay with us.

Charlie joined us at the beginning of June, 2025. He's a Hound mix, 12 years old and weighing 57 lbs. Charlie is blind but navigates his world with experience and ease. Sadly, medical issues render him unadoptable so he has entered our hospice program.

Scotty is a 17-year-old Beagle mix, minus the howling. He has found his forever home with Karina, who took him in until he was adopted. After some time at her house, however, it became clear that Scotty is fast approaching the rainbow bridge. So Karina pulled out the hospice pillow and is letting Scotty rest there till it's time.

Riley came to us after losing his dad. He became pretty fragile and also develop dementia with pretty debilitating symptoms. dealing with symptoms of dementia. After being cared for generously and lovingly by our hospice fosters, Patti & Dave, we had to say good-bye to Riley in the early part of 2023.

Brie came to us as a stray. During her physical exam, bloodwork revealed that she is in end-stage kidney failure. She received injection treatments three times a week at the hands of her loving hospice foster, Erin. Despite our prayers for Brie's little kidneys, she lost her battle and died in 2022.

Jack the moppet, 18 years, went to his doggie maker on November 13th, 2021. Many thanks to his beloved foster, Cindy, for rising to the occasion yet again. She made Jack's last years the most calm and enjoyable as possible in his last months of life.

Lulu, sister to Nellie, came to us as a little skinny mini, struggling to get healthy. She needed a lot of medical care and attention, in general, until she succumbed completely to her poor health in October, 2022. Her sister found a home where she has found solace in great doggie parents and a new canine sibling.

Buddy and sister, Jazzy, were surrendered as an emergency case. A massive social media and word-of-mouth campaign found them an emergency foster and then adopters, who arranged to come to Illinois from Maine. But before they could arrive, Buddy got very sick and did not survive. The generous souls from across the country came anyway and have given Jazzy a home, where she is living the absolute best happily-ever-after life imaginable.
